PHONE MEETINGS

 Members meet on a phone bridge / conference call.

  • To find online meetings go to oa.org and click on Find a Meeting then look for the Telephone Meeting button. Enter your local time zone and click search.  Use the Advanced Search option to limit the results.
  • The phone bridge is not usually a toll free number, and each member is responsible for any long distance charges incurred while attending the meeting.
  • The meetings are conducted like a face to face meeting, with a format and a moderator (leader).
  • Some OA groups record their phone meetings and have them available as podcasts.

ONLINE – CHAT ROOM ( writing)

 Online meetings take place in a “virtual space” where members sign in and share by typing and sending what they want to say.

  • The meetings are conducted like a face to face meeting, with a format and a moderator (leader).
  • To find online meetings go to www.org and click on Find a Meeting then look for the Online Meeting button. Enter your local time zone and click search. Use the Advanced Search option to limit the results.
  • Each meeting has a URL listed. Copy or type that URL into your internet browser. Follow the login instructions to join the meeting.
  • An e-mail address and/or a telephone number is listed if you need help or would like more information.

ONLINE – CHAT ROOM (voice) 

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) – video calls from a computer or smart phone.

  •  The meetings are conducted like a face to face meeting, with a format and a moderator (leader).
  • Download and install the  application on your computer.
  • To find these meetings go to oa.org and click on Find a Meeting then look for the Online Meetings button. Enter your local time zone and click search.  Use the Advanced Search option to limit the results. Sort the results by URL and scroll down to the voices meetings listed.
  • Follow the Online Procedures This may include sending a request to the contact ahead of time so you can be conferenced into the meeting.
  • Sometimes if there are too many people on the call there may be technical difficulties.

 

 EMAIL LOOPS

A message sent to a list of subscribers.

  •  Email loops are currently listed on the Email Loop Courtesy Listing page on www.oa.org
  • As a subscriber of the loop members receive email messages from everyone in the loop and when you reply your response goes out the other members of that loop.
  • Loops may be OA business or recovery focused.
  • Subscription is requested by an email to the contact.
  • The meeting may or may not be archived.

 

CROSS-PLATFORM MOBILE MESSAGING

Use the Internet to send text messages, documents, images, and video, using standard cellular mobile numbers.

These meetings may be in multiple medias and may or may not meet in real time.  You must download and install the app to your phone or computer.

Whats App meetings

These meetings are listed on www.oa.org, click on Find a Meeting then look for the Telephone Meetings button.

  • Follow the instruction. For example:  Please send WhatsApp message to the contact number to be added to the list of Virtual OA members, soon you will receive instructions on how to participate in the meeting.

WeChat

These meetings are currently listed on the Email Loop Courtesy Listing page on the OA website (www.oa.org).

  • Follow the instructions. For example:  Group Name: SOS WeChat Meeting Topic Posted Monday at 10:00 a.m. Meeting closes Weds at Noon Leader WeChat ID: jennbeijing .
